DDoS attack, haven't seen you for ages

Beginning with 22.08.2015 the WotLK realms of logon are under DDoS attack, the offline time duration of each values from 10 to 20 hours from 22.08.2015 till 24.08.2015. They were temporarily online, but it lasted for not more than 3-12 hours, the offline time duration of each realm is different, because attack activity changed from time to time.


Unfortunately, data center could solve that problem during weekends, they tried different solutions, but it helped only for a short period of time. There were some global solutions, but much time was needed.


That's why todays morning we started configuring external protection for logon realms, but we have some little issues with ping because our realms use much traffic. People, that played from 12:00 could watch higher ping, but we are working on it and the realms are now stable.


More information about the external protection filter:


- Traffic, that comes from your client to our server will now pass special external filter, which in case of DDoS attack will absorb it.
- Due to this protection you will have a bit higher ping (don't watch the ping that is showed in your client), after complete configuration the ping will be just a little higher than it usually is, we think that it's better than be offline for several hours.
- Some players can face problems with logging to realm, your IP may be in the list of blocked, and you should wait for about 15 minutes and then try again.
- It is not excluded that protections filters can be attacked and turned off by DDoS (unlikely), in that case it will be just a short time problem, after 5-15 minutes everything will be filtered and the repeated attack will cause no problems.


Why did not we turn these filters before and use them all the time? That's simple: ping, where it is needed (web resources, login server), it's always online and it's nearly impossible to turn off with an attack.


External filters will work at logon realms till the DDoS attack stops and for some time after it. During this period we will update our server equipment and OS, and such DDoS attack won't be a threat for us anymore.
